How Do I Start Canicross With My Dog?

Getting Started With Canicross

Canicross is one of the most rewarding ways to exercise with your dog. It strengthens your bond, improves fitness and gives your dog an outlet for their natural enthusiasm and energy.

The good news? You don’t need to be an experienced runner to get started.

Successful Canicross beginnings

Successful canicross begins with three simple foundations:

1. The Right Equipment

A well-fitted canicross harness, a bungee line and a comfortable running belt help keep both you and your dog safe and comfortable.

2. Clear Communication

Before heading out on longer runs, your dog should understand a few basic directional cues such as:

* Go
* Steady
* Left
* Right
* Stop

3. Building Fitness Gradually

Just like people, dogs need time to develop fitness. Start with short, enjoyable sessions and gradually increase distance and duration.

Remember, the goal isn’t speed. The goal is creating a happy and confident team.
